It's waterproof, as we said, but it's also suppose to be able to take a six foot drop. It is also supposed to withstand freezing and crushing. How's that for Tough?
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 is a great option for those that want something that is less specialized and has more of an overall application. This camera does lack jpeg processing abilities but you won't be disappointed in your photos. This 10.1 megapixel pocket camera has a 3 inch TFT LCD display. The LX5 follows on the heels of the super-successful DMC-LX3 camera. In trying to improve upon the LX3, Panasonic had their work cut out for them.
The improvements are not that massive, in our opinion. The sensor in the LX5 is only about 30% more sensitive than that of the LX3. Because of the LED back lighting, the LX5 has improved color and the LX5 LCD uses a higher index for color rendering. {Canon has a more than solid reputation for high quality in many areas of production including digital pocket size cameras. This old workhouse continues to be a fast favorite when it comes to casual photography. You may find cameras that offer more robust features but they generally come with a higher sticker price.
There are many mitigating factors that make choosing the best pocket size digital camera a challenging proposition. First figure out exactly what your needs in a digital camera are and then decided on a budget you can afford; find the camera that works best with both. Keep in mind that unless you're planning to print out large prints of the photos, high pixel counts should not be your first priority. That is one marketing aspect that still carries over to this day.
